It adds geospatial context through centimeter accurate localization and integrated data communication. It combines two capabilities as the sensors generate proprietary data and offer an integrated data communication. Proprietary data includes 3D-location (x,y,z), ID, status, acceleration, orientation, and pressure. Current localization technologies have many insufficiencies, which is why they are not suited for some of the promising applications in the industry. Existing technologies, such as GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not able to achieve high accuracy up to several centimeters.
Our hardware architecture comprised of two main components, particularly the sensor attached to the object or human and the anchors serving as the reference points.
Our simple and 100% wireless system shows excellent performance in challenging environments either indoor or outdoor. The battery powered anchors don’t depend on Ethernet cables and enable a mobile and flexible system use. The corresponding quick and easy setup process leads to low installation costs and short installation times. Generally, there are two possibilities concerning the setup of the KINEXON setup: wired or wireless.
The wired set up is designed for fixed installations. Thereby the anchors will be usually mounted on walls or pillars. Despite a wired setup, the KINEXON solution is easy and fast to install in every environment – indoor and outdoor.
The mobile KINEXON solution offers a maximum degree of flexibility and simplicity. The anchors can be deployed wireless, as they are able to be battery-powered and do not require Ethernet wiring due to the fact the anchors communicate by radio with each. Thereby the mobile anchors can be mounted on tripods, poles, etc. The wireless setup is specially appropriate for mobile and outdoor applications.
When you compare our solution to the GPS system, the anchors correspond to the satellites. They serve as reference points for the sensors and enable the localization and communication of the sensor network. They send and receive signals from the utilized sensors and pass the information (time stamp, signal strenght) to the base. The anchors can be deployed wireless, as they are able to be battery-powered and do not require Ethernet wiring, as the anchors communicate with each other by radio.
The Anchors measure the position of sensors with centimeter accuracy (<10 cm). The high robustness ensures precision even in challenging environments (e.g. due to interferences, multipath) and is proven in various environments.
The centerpiece of our system are different lightweight sensors, which are able to record the centimeter accurate 3D position and motion data of the object they are attached to. Besides a positioning chip, the sensors incorporate further inertial sensors, such as accelerometer and gyroscope, enabling them to track not only the position but also the motion, in particular the acceleration, rotation and inclination.
Moreover, standardized interfaces (e.g. SPI, UART or Bluetooth low energy) transform the sensor into a hub that aggregates and communicates data from surrounding sensors (e.g. vehicle information). Two-way communication ensures data communication to and from the sensors and the respective add-on modules they are connected to. This allows, for example, a torque wrench to transmit its status data as battery life to the sensors and to receive commands regarding the torque reduction.
